Sarah Ailey Leads Federally Funded Disability Health Research

Congratulations to Sarah Ailey, PhD, RN, CDDN, FAAN, Professor at Rush University College of Nursing and former ADHCE President, for her leadership in federally funded research and education focused on improving health care for people with disabilities.

End Diagnostic Overshadowing: Addressing Ableism in the Healthcare Context

Dr. Ailey serves as Principal Investigator of this NIH-funded R01 project addressing diagnostic overshadowing and ableism in health care.

PATH-PWIDD

Dr. Ailey also served as Principal Investigator of Partnering to Transform Health Outcomes with Persons with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (PATH-PWIDD), a five-year project funded by the Administration for Community Living from 2020–2025.

PATH-PWIDD addressed gaps in health professions education by integrating disability-related content and experiences into interprofessional health education.

Member Recognition

Alina Engelman Receives the 2023 Disability and Disasters Award

ADHCE celebrates Alina Engelman, DrPH, MPH, recipient of the Natural Hazards Center's 2023 Disability and Disasters Award.

Dr. Engelman's work focuses on health disparities affecting deaf and disabled people and on advancing disability justice in global emergency preparedness, climate-related disasters, and disaster response.
